Sacraments Preparation for Children

Helping Children Grow in Faith

At St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Lugbe, we believe in nurturing the faith of our young ones by preparing them for the sacraments of initiation and spiritual growth. The sacraments mark key moments in their faith journey, and we are committed to guiding children and their families through this sacred process.

Sacraments for Children

We offer structured catechetical programs to prepare children for the following sacraments:

1. Baptism (for Children Above Age 7)

  • Children who are seven years or older and have not yet been baptized must complete the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC).
  • The program introduces them to the Catholic faith, prayers, and the meaning of baptism.
  • After completing the RCIC, children receive Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

2. First Holy Communion (Eucharist)

  • Children typically receive First Holy Communion around the ages of 7-9 years old.
  • Preparation includes learning about the Holy Eucharist, attending Mass, confession, and understanding the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
  • The First Holy Communion Mass is a special celebration for the children and their families.

3. First Reconciliation (Confession/Penance)

  • Before receiving First Holy Communion, children must prepare for their First Confession.
  • The program teaches them about sin, forgiveness, God’s mercy, and how to make a good confession.
  • Children will have the opportunity to confess to a priest in a child-friendly environment.

4. Confirmation

  • This sacrament is usually received around the ages of 12-16 years old.
  • Children learn about the Holy Spirit, the gifts and fruits of the Spirit, and the responsibilities of being a confirmed Catholic.
  • The Bishop or an appointed priest administers the Sacrament of Confirmation.
