Joining the Catholic Church

Are you interested in becoming a Catholic? Whether you are new to the faith, seeking to complete your sacraments, or returning to the Church after time away, St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Lugbe welcomes you with open arms.

Becoming a Catholic: the Journey of Faith

The Catholic Church is a universal family of believers, founded by Jesus Christ, and guided by the Holy Spirit. Becoming a Catholic is a beautiful journey of faith, learning, and commitment. Below are the pathways to joining the Church:

1. Baptism (For Those Who Have Never Been Baptized)

If you have never been baptized in any Christian denomination, you will go through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. This process includes:

  • Learning about the Catholic faith and teachings
  • Participating in the parish community
  • Receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist
  • RCIA classes are available for adults and children above 7 years old. Please visit the Catechism Office to register.

2. for Christians from Other Denominations

If you are already baptized in another Christian church and wish to become Catholic, you may need to receive Confirmation and the Eucharist. The process includes:

  • Attending RCIA or special catechism classes
  • Learning about Catholic beliefs and traditions
  • Making a profession of faith and receiving the sacraments
  • Our Parish Office can guide you through the process and answer any questions.

3. Returning to the Catholic Church

If you were baptized Catholic but have been away from the Church, you are always welcome back! To return, you may need to:

  • Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
  • Attend a refresher catechism class (if necessary)
  • Start participating in Mass and parish life again
  • A priest or catechist can help you reconnect with the Church and deepen your faith.
